dqm only exists in abbreviated form anymore. I thought about getting a new name, but I can't be arsed.
I'm a nonpractising Scorpio in my early twenties. I like being as vague as humanly possible. I'm majoring in Economics at the university John Grisham attended. I think he majored in Banal Literature.
I find it frightening the way economics majors can rationalise genocide by political leaders who have, what they consider to be, good economic policies. I support Bill Bradley, but it's hard to get excited about anyone who seems incapable of getting excited himself. I'm a socialist, but unfortunately in much of the Untied States, saying you are a socialist is akin to saying you are a devil worshipper.
I have a Union Jack up on my wall that one of my suite-mates mistook for a Confederate flag, so she assumed I was a racist. Sad, isn't it?
I like screwdrivers. I figure that the positives of the orange juice cancels out the negatives of the vodka.
Music:
A
not so short list of my favourite bands: Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev,
Primal Scream, Spiritualized, Death in Vegas, Pavement, Belle and Sebastian,
Charlatans, Super Furry Animals, Mogwai, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Jesus
and Mary Chain, Suede, Velvet Underground, and Television. I also
like Billie Holiday, Sam Cooke, Sly and the Family Stone, and the Stooges.
Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space is still the most
moving record I've ever heard.
I detest the whole idea of "whatever I said, I
didn't mean it; I just want you back." That's not just a potshot
at boy bands. It's a shot at all love songs, really. The only
song that I think would ever sway me would be Elvis's version of "You Were
Always on My Mind."
Television: That 70's Show,
Freaks and Geeks (please don't get cancelled), Young Ones,
This Life, CatDog, and MTV2.
Favourite Author: JD Salinger. I'm really just a simpleton who thoroughly enjoys reading the British tabloids.
Films: Dr. Strangelove, If. . ., the Philadelphia Story, North by Northwest, Heathers, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, 2001: A Space Odyssey, What's New Pussycat?, Steel Magnolias, Apocalypse Now, and Grosse Pointe Blank.
XY chromosome: To quote Paula Poundstone,
"I'm not much attracted to anyone and no one is much attracted to me."
So, with that in mind, I'll focus on the unattainable. Cary Grant
(deceased), Peter O'Toole (decrepit), and Jake Ryan from Sixteen Candles
(disappeared). I can't say the actor who played Jake because,
did you see Vision Quest? That mohawk he had in the film was
very scary.
